Catechetical School

The St. George Catechism School Teachers would like to welcome you all back to the new Ecclesiastical year. We kicked off the new school year with our first class and have plans for a lot of fun activities and chances to learn about our lord. Our Catechism School is always looking for volunteers that would like to help teach our children the orthodox religion. If you are interested, please see Evi Bivins after the Service, or call her at 727-856-1330.

St. George Greek Orthodox Church

 Dear Parents and students:

Let me take this opportunity to welcome you to another year full of learning and fun activities for all of us, as well as spiritual growth.

If you are new to our community, we offer Catechism School services immediately after Communion every Sunday, except for Youth Sunday. The third Sunday of each month has been designated as such, and Fr. Michael dedicates his entire sermon to speaking to our Youth.

Our Catechism School this year has been divided into 5 age groups:

  1. Pre-K – 1st Grade Program (4-6 years old) Our little ones will be introduced to the Orthodox Faith. We will learn about the Divine Liturgy, and what we do when we enter God’s House. The teacher will be Julie Kallivrousis.
  2. 2nd  - 4th Grades (7-9 years old) – This curious age group will take a Journey through our Church, learning about the Divine Liturgy and the Sacraments of Confession and Communion. The Teacher will be Evi Bivins.
  3. 5th   – 8th Grades (10-13 years old) -  This age group will have a weekly theme. Each week they will discuss the lives of the Saints that are being celebrated as well as explore the Feast Days, and the sacraments including the importance of confession, forgiveness, preparing for communion. The teacher will be Christine Ritter.
  4. 9th – 12th and Young Adults (14-17 years) –The teens/young adults will be exploring and learning about the Sacraments. The teacher will be Juan Lojo.

We look forward to our Youth’s participation again this year each and every Sunday. We believe that with our Catechism school service, our children have an opportunity to learn about our faith, and also enjoy being with other children their age. We would also welcome anyone that would like to join us in teaching these young minds or just participate. We hope that you will join us in nurturing their young minds and souls and support us in our goal of keeping our children away from evil. After all, they are our future!

 Regards,
